Richards is a Minnesota native who has found a home in Texas. She began running on July 4, 1997. Her long-term running goal is to run a marathon in all 50 states and Washington, DC. To date, she has run marathons or ultras in over 40 states as well as several international races. Richards served as President of Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers (RAW) for five terms (2002-2007). She continues to volunteer at RAW by race directing, serving on multiple committees, and writing an “RRCA News” column for the monthly newsletter. Richards was a State Rep from 2006-2008, winning the RRCA Outstanding State Representative of the Year in 2008. Richards has volunteered her time nationally by serving on the RRCA Board (2009-15), and the Strategic Plan Review Task Force, the Runner Friendly Community selection panel, Kids Run the Nation Grant selection panel, and several National Running Award selection panels. She was instrumental in the development of the Road Race of the Year Award and started the annual RRCA Race Shirt Contest. Richards regularly promotes the many RRCA programs and annually hosts a RRCA Run@Work Day event.
