We Run the Nation: Growing the Sport of Running Since 1958

Alaska State Representative - Brian Laurent

Laurent_thumbBrian Laurent is the treasurer for Southeast Road Runners in Juneau, Alaska, and Alaska’s RRCA State Rep. He has come a long way from cutting track practice in high school. Brian only ran sporadically until deciding in 2005 to train for a 10K to keep active during the long Alaskan winter. One race led to another that summer, and he has not stopped moving since. After swearing he would never run an ultra marathon, his training now focuses on ultras and personal endurance runs such as Rim to Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon.

One of Brian’s favorite races is the Equinox Ultra Marathon in Fairbanks, Alaska. Ask him about the time he made a wrong turn two miles from the finish, tacking on five miles to the 40-mile course. Or the time during his first ultra when he missed a turn, only to have a group of fellow racers join him down the wrong path. Running in the woods is difficult when all of the trees look alike…

When not running, Brian enjoys his job as the “data guy” for the Alaska Department of Education, reading, and Boise State football.
