Virginia State Representative - Goody Tyler
Goody is a native “Norfolkian” (Norfolk, Virginia) although his Army career moved him a few times around the country including a stint in Hawaii. He has been an active member of the Tidewater Striders for the past 2 decades. He has supports his club in various ways including working every aspect of race management, leading aid station support for the club’s ultra marathon, serving as the club’s volunteer coordinator (past), and serving as the club’s Vice President for 4 years (past). His efforts are at a high enough level to prompt the club to recognize him (and his wife) for “Outstanding Contributions of Time and Service to the Tidewater Striders”, an honor given in 2010. In addition to supporting his own club’s events, Goody is no stranger to other races in his region. He manages a water station at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run and is the overall water station manager for the Freedom ½ Marathon. Additionally, Goody is has attended numerous RRCA conventions and supported the Tidewater Striders when they hosted the convention in 2002.
His personal running exploits have taken him around the country and abroad a few times as he and his wife pursue the 50 state marathon goal. Their accomplishment of a marathon-a-month in 2002 helped get this effort off the ground. No matter where he travels, Goody seems to always find a race to participate in, including a 10K in the Grand Cayman last December. As a result, he has a great perspective on the wide variety of ways one can put on a successful event.
Goody retired in 2008 from a career as a Nurse Anesthetist and he is also retired Major from the US Army. He is active in his community volunteering for the American Red Cross and the Norfolk Botanical Garden.
