Barbara Jewel started running in 1974, motivated by her then-boyfriend-now-husband, Dave. “I remember having to buy men’s running shoes, because we couldn’t find any shoes made for women,” said Barb. Barb’s running was pretty low key for the next 20 years, and she didn’t run her first marathon until she turned 40. She ran the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon that October in 3:33 and qualified for Boston. Barb serves as the manager of the finish area for the Badgerland Striders’ Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. She is also the Treasurer and past President of the Racine Area Running Club, and a member of the Lakes Area Running Club.
