Listing Your Events on the Web

The RRCA Calendars are a free service which is totally supported by event submissions from Clubs, Race Directors and Volunteers in your area. If events are in your area are not listed, notify their race directors or associated clubs of our service, or volunteer to enter important races and help support this effort.

You can list your races and events on the World Wide Web for free by using the RRCA's Interactive Event Calendars. In the Event Calendars section of the RRCA Web site each state has been given an Interactive Event Calendar which can be found by clicking on the state in the map. Calendars for a given state list the events that state. In addition, calendars are searchable for multiple states, different event types, special RRCA series races or for text in their names. If you are in a club that has it's own web page you might consider embedding an RRCA calendar in your web page. This is simple to do, saves you storage space on your server and provides you with a calendar which can be maintained by anyone in your club with access to the internet and a web browser. It also makes your races easy to find for anyone who may be visiting your area and looking for an event and automatically adds them to the RRCA national calendar.

Adding Events to the Calendar

All events are added at the State level by going to a State calendar and clicking on the "post new event" button near the top of the page. You will need a password which you can obtain from the posting form by entering your email address and clicking on the "email me a password" button.

To add your races or events to the calendar you use your web browser to fill out a form with information about the event. It is then added automatically to the calendar and appears immediately in the State calendar. You do not need to know how to program or write web pages to add, change or delete events in the calendar.

Security

Calendar entry is password protected to prevent unauthorized tampering. In addition, all calendar transactions are logged and the calendar database is routinely backed up.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who posts events in the calendar?
You do. Don't send them to the webmaster to post or he will assume you can't read.
  • Is it appropriate to put events not sponsored by my club in the calendar?
It is appropriate to put any events in the calendar that are of interest to your club members.
  • Is it appropriate to put events in the calendar if I am not an RRCA member or they are not RRCA club events?
Yes, any running, walking or multisport event is welcome.
  • Whats it take to post events in the calendar?
You need to obtain a password from the posting form as discussed above.
  • Do I have to be a computer programmer to use the calendar?
No. You just have to be able to fill out a form.
  • When does next years calendar come out?
It doesn't. The calendar is perpetual. You can post events for any upcoming date up to 5 years in advance.
  • How much info do I need to fill out in the form
The top information in the form marked with an * is mandatory. Additional information below is optional. The simplest event listing would have info on the poster, the name of the event, location and a phone number. If your event has special divisions (eg for wheelchairs), special prizes, or special challenges it is a good idea to include that information.
  • This sounds like too much trouble. If I email or fax you the info will you post them for me?
DON'T ASK. We don't have the resources to do all your work for you. If you want to promote your event on the calendar, you must post it. It is simple and only takes a minute or two.
  • How soon do things get posted?
    Instantly.
  • I used the password the mail robot gave me and I can't get accesss
Since the robot seldom makes mistakes, check to see that you put in the password exactly as mailed to you. In addition, you must enter the same email address you used to get the password.
  • What if I make a mistake?
Click on the event and click the "modify or delete this event" button at the bottom of the event page.
  • How do I edit events?
Click the "modify or delete this event" button on the event page.
  • What about out of date events?
Events get automatically deleted when they are out of date.
  • I hate to type, can I put lots of events in at once"
You can avoid retyping lots of the data by using the back button in your browser to back up to the form between multiple postings. You can also click "modify or delete event" on an existing event which is similar and use it for a starting point. In this way you need only change the things that are different. WARNING: Make sure to click the "add event" button to add a new one each time. If you click "change event" you will replace the previous event with a new one.
  • How do I put in my clubs training runs that happen every Thursday?
You need only make one calendar entry for a series. For the date put in an expiration date for your series in the calendar, (eg the last events date in the series). Under "Special events", mark your entry as a "Recurring Series" and it will be posted in the calendar as a series.
  • How do I mark RRCA Championships or Women's Distance Festival Events?
    Use the "Special event" options.
