350 Spots Available in Big Sur Marathon"s Last Chance Drawing

08/19/2015
Carmel, CA -- The "bucket list" Big Sur International Marathon opens its Last Chance Drawing August 18-24. A total of 350 spots are available in this final opportunity to enter the April 24, 2016 race. Due to unprecedented demand for race entries, organizers of the Big Sur Marathon established a multi-tiered drawing process for the 2016 race which allowed for group entries as well as first-timer, local and loyalty runners. Just over 3,000 names were randomly chosen from more than 8,800 applications received in July. Of those, about 2,600 runners completed their registration, leaving 350 openings for the Last Chance Drawing. "We"re very excited to provide another opportunity for the thousands who were not selected in the first drawing to win a spot at the Big Sur Marathon start line,' said Race Director Doug Thurston. "In addition, anyone who missed the chance to enter the first round of drawings can apply. We anticipate a very strong demand.' Registration for the Last Chance Drawing runs from August 18-24 at www.bsim.org. with a $2.50 application fee. There are no special categories or requirements to apply. The results of the Last Chance Drawing will be announced by August 26 via email, Facebook and the Big Sur Marathon"s website . Registration for the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge drawing-for those who want to run the iconic Boston Marathon and the Big Sur Marathon six days later--will open in early October following the close of Boston Marathon registration. In addition, a limited number of marathon entries are still available as a fund raiser with one of several pre-selected charities or via a travel package offered through Marathon Tours. The 26.2-mile marathon is one of six different distance events taking place on Sunday, April 24, 2016. Registration for all others distances - 21, 10.6 and 9-Milers, a 5K and the four-person Marathon Relay - opens Tuesday, September 1 on a first come, first served basis. All events are run along the scenic course on California"s Highway 1 with all runners crossing a single finish line.
