01/15/2015
QUANTICO, VA (Jan. 14, 2015) - While gearing runners of all ages to get active in 2015, the MCM Event Series presents a variety of distances and experiences, including the event that offers guaranteed entry to one of the nation's most beloved marathons. Hosted annually by the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), the MCM Event Series includes the unique Marine Corps 17.75K with its golden opportunity to obtain "guaranteed access" to the 40th MCM; the messy fun of the popular Run Amuck mud and obstacle event; the Quantico Tri with a new course; and the Turkey Trot 10K for families to enjoy as a pre-holiday celebration. Registration for all events will be available at www.marinemarathon.com, with the Quantico Tri being the first event to open to public registration on Feb. 25. Marine Corps 17.75K Date: March 28 Registration opens: March 11 The most immediate way to capture a coveted spot in "The People's Marathon" is the Marine Corps 17.75K. Entries for 17.75K sold out in a mere 9 minutes in 2014 with runners clambering to run the event for a guaranteed spot in the MCM. Annually, the Marine Corps 17.75K draws 2,500 participants to forge through the challenging course set in Prince William County's Prince William Forest Park. The truly distinct Marine Corps 17.75K distance of 11.03 miles commemorates the year in which the Marine Corps was established. Runners can start registering for the Marine Corps 17.75K at noon Eastern on Wednesday, March 11 at www.marinemarathon.com. The event will be held on Saturday, March 28. For $55, participants will receive a 17.75K technical shirt, official runner's bib and timing device - and, new this year, 17.75K finisher medals will be presented by U.S. Marines. Runners age eight and above can register but only 17.75K finishers ages 14 and above will receive guaranteed entry to the 40th MCM. Although held in scenic Prince William Forest, the Marine Corps 17.75K is no easy day in the park. The Marine Corps 17.75K challenges runners on a course that winds along the twists and turns and the steep uphill and downhill inclines of the Forest. Run Amuck Date: June 13 Registration opens: April 8 Run Amuck takes participants on an exhilarating four-mile mud and obstacle run through the trails and hills of Quantico while confronting arduous obstacles, messy mud pits and smashing water blasts. Run Amuck and the amended version of the adrenaline-charged course, Mini Run Amuck, offer messy merriment for participants of all ages. Registration for both events opens online on April 8 at www.marinemarathon.com for anyone age eight and above. Run Amuck registration is $45, with the two-mile Mini Run Amuck being $25 to register. Quantico Tri Date: August 22 Registration opens: February 25 Participants will splash, peddle and stride through the Quantico Tri on Saturday, Aug. 22. Hosted aboard Quantico, each leg of the USAT-sanctioned, sprint distance event offers a unique view of the base known as the 'rossroads of the Marine Corps." In addition to the swim portion, the Quantico Tri includes a 10-mile bike and 5K run. Registration for the Quantico Tri is $95 and opens online on Feb. 25. The Quantico Tri includes a pre-event pasta dinner and guest speaker hosted at the Clubs of Quantico. Turkey Trot 10K Date: November 21 Registration opens: October 7 This classic November run takes participants through Quantico's scenic fall foliage and along the Chopawamsic Creek. The Turkey Trot 10K and Turkey Trot Mile are the best preemptive strikes against Thanksgiving calories. All participants receive technical shirts, official runner's bib, a bounty of hospitality items at the finish and a visit to the petting zoo.
