Over 500 runners, walkers, and spectators hit the streets of Lakeview, LA on Saturday, July 29 for the Third Annual Power Mile Road Race
, the RRCA Louisiana State 1 Mile Championship.
The evening kicked off with the first-ever Celebrity Power Half Mile featuring several notable New Orleanians. The Half Mile Youth Run was followed by the Open Mile and the Elite Mile. Immediately following the last race was a family-friendly party featuring live music, food from Central City BBQ
, and Elmer's Chee Wees
, and beer from Urban South Brewery
In the elite race, both of last year's champions returned to defend their titles. Under Armour pro runner Frezer Legesse and local elite Malia Cali of the Louisiana Distance Project set the men's and women's course records at last year's race. Legesse again won the race and set another new course record of a time 4:17.70. Rachel Paul won the race with Malia Cali coming in second. Paul finished in 5:06.27.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.)
