Mar 18 Running to Make a DifferenceDear RRCA Members,Besides volunteering to be the 2009 RRCA Convention Director and Central California State Representative, my REAL job is being a special education teacher for incarcerated minors. Many of my students are participating in the cross country program I developed for Camp Glenwood, an RRCA Kids Run the Nation grant recipient program in 2007. I started this program, because I wanted these boys and now girls to know that there are other alternatives to violence, alcohol and drugs. My motto is “get high on running - it’s a lot cheaper.” Moreover, running teaches patience and goal setting. In fact, one boy told me later that finishing a 5K was the first successful thing he had done in a long time. Now that the 2009 RRCA Convention is upon us next week, I would like to invite RRCA members to bring contributions of male and female running shoes (new or lightly used) and running clothes to donate. Please no RED or BLUE clothes, as they are gang colors. I am also seeking sport coats and ties so the boys have nice clothes to wear for job interviews. Consider leaving your tie after the RRCA Annual Banquet. When you come to the Convention you can drop off your donated items to the expo area. Contact me at 650-363-4374 or email me at Thanks and I look forward to seeing you in San Francisco. Sincerely, George Rehmet http://www.RRCAConvention.org ###
