An exciting Mahoning Valley tradition, the 38th annual Youngstown Peace Race will be October 21 and is an opportunity for runners, walkers and spectators to enjoy the autumn beauty of Mill Creek Park.
The Peace Race features two main running distances - a 10-kilometer, or 6.2-mile course; and a 2-mile walk/run. A complementary children’s run for children ages 10 and under will also kickoff running events. The children’s run will begin at 9 a.m; the 2-mile will begin at 9:30 a.m.; and the 10K will begin at 11 a.m.
New this year, long-sleeved Dri-Fit technical shirts will be distributed to registrants. Quantities are limited, so be sure and register early.
On race day, come early and relax at our starting line facilities - near the 10K starting line - at Kirkmere Elementary School. Coffee and donuts and restroom facilities will be provided. As in year’s past, the new 10-K course follows a point-to-point scenic course through Mill Creek Park, finishing at Federal Plaza in Downtown Youngstown; and the two mile course begins at the YMCA on Champion Street in Downtown Youngstown. Nearly 1,500 people participated in the 2-mile walk/run and the 10-kilometer run in 2011, and race officials expect similar participation for the 2012 event.
