Meet shuttle astronaut Jerry Ross at the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana's inaugural Space Race 5K Run & Walk. This event is scheduled to "blast off" at 8:00 a.m. on July 29th, 2012 from the Challenger Center in Hammond, IN. Although the event will be a timed, competitive 5K race, you do not have to be a runner or athlete to participate. Participants may also enter a space-themed costume contest, enjoy laser light shows in the center's planetarium, and there will be science activities for the kids. Special "My First 5k" finisher awards will be given to athletes who are completing their first 5K at the Space Race. For more information and to register for the race visit www.yourhometownevents.com
