The 12th St. Croix International Marathon set for December 7, 2013
What: The 12th St. Croix International Marathon a 26.2 mile road race for runners men and women 18 years and older…walkers invited…
The marathon is a race with enormous history…its origin is associated with the ancient games of the Olympiad in Greece and the myth of the messenger Pheidippides running from battlefield of Marathon to Athens to deliver the news that the Athenians had won victory over the more Persians…it is the only event designed for the Olympic Games.
Included on race day in addition to the 12th St. Croix International Marathon is The St. Croix Half-Marathon (will start at 6:00 am at Butler Bay and The St. Croix Marathon Relay (minimum of 10 teams for this race) The St. Croix Marathon Relay Teams = 6 runners per team/Legs—5k (3.1 miles), 10k (6.2 miles), 5k (3.1 miles), 10k (6.2 miles), 5k (3.1 miles), 7k (4.47 miles) a total of 26.2 miles

The St. Croix International Marathon is the first marathon in the world to be run in the “New Millennium” (01-01-01) and it was for several years the first marathon run in the world each year since.
Where: Course--Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands on the road and street from Plaza Extra West (near St.Joseph’s Church) on Queen Mary Highway to Frederiksted to Vincent Mason Pool to Frederiksted to Hamm’s Bluff to Mahogany Road past Lagrange to Frederiksted Medre Cummings playground to Ham’s Bluff to Frederiksted to Market St. to Strand St. to Ann Abramson pier.
The course is certified by AIMS/IAAF and runners may qualify for the Olympics, World Championships and Boston Marathon…the course is scenic, it’s flat, it’s fast…the first five miles is slighty down hill, 20 of the remaining miles is along the seashore with one mile in the rain forest...
This marathon invites clubs/organzations/teams and will establish special categories them.
