The 2013 edition of the Fort Steilacoom Invitational is set for September 21.Although the meet is early in the season, the competition is tough and the times are fast. Jordan McPhee of Mt. Rainier defended her title and Nicholas Hauger on the won the boys race in 2012. The meet has featured several of the top athletes in the state over the past several years. The course is also the site of the league championships for the South Puget Sound League (2A, 3A, 4A), Nisqually League, and Narrows League (3A, 4A).
The meet typically features from 55-65 teams. Awards go to the top 5 schools in both large and small school divisions. Individual awards are 20 deep in varsity races and 10 deep for the junior varsity races.
There is also an open race and a youth race for middle school and below. Parents may run with their children. The youth race is approximately 2 kilometers and is free. The open race is $5.
