Celebrating Quantico’s Centennial with 100-minute challenge
or 2.62-mile Mini on April 29
QUANTICO, VA (April 4, 2017) – Ever wanted to test your ability to run as fast, or as far as possible? The Quantico 100 and Quantico 100 Mini presented by GEICO Military provide runners the opportunity to do just that. Both events will be held April 29 on Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA in celebration of the installation’s Centennial anniversary.
Register for the Quantico 100 to log as much mileage as possible within 100 minutes. Or choose to register for the new Quantico 100 Mini along a 2.62-mile course. Both events start and finish at Quantico’s historic Butler Stadium taking runners on the 2.62-mile loop course that equals one-tenth of a marathon distance.
Registration for both events presented by GEICO Military is available at www.marinemarathon.com. Individuals, age eight and above, and teams of three runners are eligible to run the Quantico 100. The Quantico 100 Mini is open to all ages. The Quantico 100 is $35 but all active duty military members pay just $18. The Quantico 100 Mini cost $18 to register.
Coordinated by the Marine Corps Marathon Organization and the U.S. Marine Corps, the Quantico 100 and Quantico 100 Mini are part of the MCM Event Series and are being held to commemorate 100 years since Marines were established on the military base.
Known as the premier training and education installation for the Marine Corps, Quantico’s renowned history includes generations of service members and civilians attending institutions such as The Basic School, Officer Candidate School, Marine Corps University and the FBI Academy, to name a few. Quantico is also home to numerous Marine Corps commands that prepare Marines for service throughout the world and is headquarters of the impressive presidential fleet of helicopters.
The Quantico 100 starts at 5:30 p.m. The course for the Quantico 100 Mini opens at 6:10 p.m. Quantico 100 and Quantico 100 Mini runners have until 7:10 p.m.to complete the events.
Centennial Celebration Concert
Runners and spectators are invited to enjoy the Centennial Celebration concert by Group Captain and the Mandrakes, a surf rock party band from Fredericksburg, VA. The concert, beginning at 7:15 p.m., is free of charge. Concessions also will be available at the event, including beer and the Beach Fries food truck.
