High Sierra Striders Win Grant to Build Local Track & Field Complex
Last week the High Sierra Striders, and RRCA member club, were awarded $140,000 in Measure R funding. This money will go towards the building of the track and field complex at the Whitmore ball fields on Benton Crossing Road. Jim and Elaine Smith both did a wonderful job in writing up the application on behalf of the High Sierra Striders. The club looks forward to breaking ground in 2010!
Special thanks goes to….
Jim and Elaine Smith for writing up the Measure R application, and their continued efforts with working with the Town of Mammoth Lakes, Mono County, DWP, and the sports complex architect.
The Mammoth Lakes Tourism and Recreation Commissioners for taking the time to review our application and make their recommendation to Mammoth Lakes Town Council. Danna Stroud has been a huge help in guiding the Striders in both the Measure R process and the Mammoth Track Project.
The Town of Mammoth Lakes Town Council for making the final decision in granting the money to the High Sierra Striders.
In addition, in 2010 the High Sierra Striders will receive a $3,200 grant from a Strategic Marketing Partnership Fund from the Town of Mammoth Lakes. This money will be used to promote our clubs’ functions, the Mammoth Track Project and races. Look for a High Sierra Striders informational tri-fold pamphlet coming soon to businesses in and around the Eastern Sierra!
Last but not least…Our club is a charter member of Mammoth Trails (a coalition of recreational non-profit organizations in Mammoth). Recently Mammoth Trails submitted an application to receive a $42,000 grant from Measure R funds for the purchase of race equipment. The application defined and specified the need for a chip timing system, a finish line inflatable arch, barricades, swim buoys, pop-up tent, small generators and a portable P/A system for announcing and music. The Town of Mammoth Lakes will own, house, and sign out the equipment to Mammoth Trails’ organizations for their events. Specifically this will save our organization money on contractual timing services in the future, the money saved will of course go straight to the Mammoth Track Project!
