Twelve Up-and-Coming Distance Runners Ready for 2015 RunPro Camp in Arlington July 9-11

RRCA hosts interactive camp providing tools and resources for post-collegiate runners interested in professional distance running careers.

ARLINGTON, Va. – Twelve up-and-coming distance runners, who have recently graduated from colleges and universities throughout the country, have been selected to attend the 4th RunPro Camp. The 2015 RunPro Camp will be held July 9-11 in Arlington, Virginia at the national office location of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and is sponsored in part by USA Track & Field.

RunPro Camp is designed specifically for athletes interested in pursuing a professional distance running career. Selection to the Camp was based on an application process, with most athletes being NCAA qualifiers and competing in distances ranging from the 800 meters up to the 10,000 meters as well as in Cross Country.

“We look forward to hosting the 4th RunPro Camp in our continuing efforts to attract and keep talented distance runners in our sport,” said Jean Knaack, RRCA executive director. “We’ve seen some great successes from athletes that have attended RunPro Camp in the past three years, and this year, we have another talented group of rising stars that we hope will become professional distance runners.”

The interactive camp will provide opportunities for runners to meet coaches and athletes from professional training centers, learn about shoe company requirements for sponsorship, determine what type of representation (agents) would be best, find out about elite race recruitment and how to seek both financial and health support, along with various USATF rules governing professional running including anti-doping compliance.

The athletes selected to attend RunPro Camp have finished their collegiate careers and show good potential to reach the next level. Travel and lodging is being provided to the following runners:

• Brogan Austin – Drake University
• Christopher Burnett – Wichita State University
• John Crain – North Central College
• Josh Dedering – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
• Grace Graham-Zamudio – Loyola Marymount University
• Katy Moen – Iowa State University
• Robert Molke – Syracuse University
• Mark Parrish – University of Florida
• Tara Richardson – Western State Colorado University
• Bethany Sachtleben – George Mason University
• Rachel Sorna – Cornell University
• Megan Wright – University of Toledo

An excellent line-up of speakers is set for RunPro Camp including an elite athlete panel featuring, Tyler Pennel, a top American distance runner and recent RRCA Roads Scholar grant recipient. Important topics to be covered at RunPro Camp include Drug Testing, Awareness and Compliance presented by Jennifer Dodd, USADA TrueSport Senior Manager, and Agent Representation vs. Self Representation, by Hawi Keflezighi of Hawi Sports Management. Representatives from USA Track & Field, U.S. distance training centers, elite athlete recruiters and more will also be speaking at the Camp.
