RRCA Announces Nomination Procedure for 2010
The Nominating Committee of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is advising membership that the following officer and director positions are up for election in 2010:
Elections for these positions will be held at the RRCA Annual Meeting of the Membership in Lakeland, FL on April 23, 2010 at 4:30 PM.
Terms of Office
The RRCA bylaws provide for splitting the officers and directors into two groups: Group I (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Eastern Regional Director, and Central Regional Director) took office in June 2008. Group II (Southern Regional Director, Western Regional Director and 2 At-Large Directors) took office in April 2009. Therefore, Group I is up for election at this time and will serve from May 1, 2010 through approximately May 30, 2012.
Details about officer and director nominations are covered in the RRCA bylaws posted online. Candidates may nominate themselves or a third party may nominate them as long as an indication from the nominee of a willingness to serve accompanies the nomination. Candidates must state the position for which they are running and provide a written statement to that effect. Candidates must provide an outline of appropriate qualifications. To be eligible for nomination as an officer or director of the RRCA, a nominee must have been a member of the RRCA for at least six months immediately preceding nomination. In addition, a prospective nominee shall: (a) support the mission, vision, and values of the RRCA**; (b) demonstrate a commitment to distance running through prior service to the sport or demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of need; (c) be able to focus with a broad, long range scope on a multitude of issues and not just single issues or events or short term solutions; (d) be able to participate assertively in deliberation with respect and tolerance for divergent opinions and ideas; (e) be willing to share power and delegate tasks; and (f) understand the role and responsibilities of RRCA Board Members***.
Additionally, Regional Directors must be from the region for which they are running.
The Nominating Committee, appointed by President Ayer, will review all nominations and may review other candidates as allowed in the bylaws. A report from the nominating committee to the members will be prepared and posted with the notice of the annual business meeting in accordance with the bylaws. The names and qualifications of eligible nominees can be submitted by RRCA club or event members or individual RRCA members, and may include eligible incumbents. The deadline for nominations is February 8, 2010.
