RUN@WORK and RUN@School Day Participants Share Pictures, Reflections

Throughout last Friday’s 8th Annual RRCA RUN@Work Day and 2nd Annual RUN@School Day, many participants took to social media to share pictures of and observations on how they were marking the day using the hashtag #runatwork . Their images and reflections produced a wonderful timeline that represented not only the rich diversity of offices, workplaces and schools taking part, but also the tremendous impact of the event.

The below Storify a nice visual summary of what RUN@WORK and RUN@School Day participants contributed of their experiences from the day. Highlights include:

  • Richard Henry Lee Elementary school in Glen Burnie, MD, where teachers participated in a before school run. Students got their turn at recess, running a cross country course with every finisher receiving a medal.

  • Detroit News and Detroit Free Press staffers among a large group of employees taking a lunchtime run in Detroit, MI.

  • Three Swanson Vitamins employees who planned to do a three mile run but ended up going for four instead.

  • Teachers from a Hopatcong, NJ school who ran 4.5 miles to work and were greeted by more than 200 cheering students.

  • The goal of RUN@WORK and RUN@School Day is to encourage adults and children to get 30-minutes of exercise each day, in accordance with the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, either in the morning, during lunch, or immediately following work or school. RUN@WORK and RUN@School Day also encourages companies to help employees schedule time for physical activity.  Incorporating exercise into one’s daily routine can markedly improve one’s overall physical health.
