Team USA Arizona Launches Track Club in Partnership with FACTS Program at FUSD
Flagstaff AZ – Team USA Arizona is partnering with the FACTS after-school program at Flagstaff Unified School District to launch the first ever Team USA Arizona Track Club at two schools in Flagstaff this year. The track club will be offered one day a week to students in grades K-6 enrolled in FACTS at Marshall Elementary School and Puente de Hozho. Team USA Arizona athletes Danielle Dominichelli and Scott Smith will serve as coaches for the program.
“We’re thrilled to partner with FACTS and FUSD to help promote health and fitness among children and youth in Flagstaff, and get students excited about the sport of running,” said Allison Mitkowski, executive director of Team USA Arizona (www.teamusaarizona.org)
Team USA Arizona Board President Tracy McMillan is pleased to expand the team’s community work with children and youth to FACTS. “Incorporating physical activity into after-school programs is very important for the health and wellness of Flagstaff youth,” said McMillan, a public health consultant specializing in built environment and children’s health research.
The track club will teach students the fundamentals of stretching and running, in addition to focusing on techniques for sprinting, hurdling, throwing and jumping events. Both Dominichelli and Smith are adidas-sponsored elite runners who live and train year-round in Flagstaff with Team USA Arizona. “I am excited for our kids to get the chance to learn the proper techniques of running and track from all-star athletes,” said FACTS Coordinator AJ Stapley. “They’re going to love it!”
