Alethia (or Mekela as she's known socially) has always exercised, and running has always been her favorite activity. But it wasn’t until there was a health challenge on her job in 2011 that she started participating in races. Much to her surprise she was pretty decent for her age group (53), and would often win Age Group awards. In 2012, Alethia joined Black Girls Run! and discovered the fun of running, racing and embracing a healthier lifestyle. She volunteered to be a Run Coordinator and then an Ambassador for the club. Along the way she was introduced to other run clubs, New York Road Runners, Bucks County Road Runners, and local race organizations who were interested in partnering with BGR. Alethia has served on a few race committees and paced a few race distances, 10 milers and half marathons. As Alethia met more experienced runners, the nerd in her wanted to learn more about the science of running, in particular Masters running. She became certified as an RRCA Endurance Coach and co-founded Sole Legacy Coaching with the intent of sharing and helping the women of her running club become smarter athletes. Inspired by one of her athletes who wanted a strength training program, Alethia pursued her NASM Certification in Personal Training to complement her coaching. Monday through Friday, she is a Library Systems Analyst for a prestigious law firm, but on the weekends, Alethia is your long-distance run partner. Her passion is to encourage others to “Take It to The Next Level”.
