(Colorado Springs, CO) - Alisha Williams and Mattie Suver, a 2013 RRCA Roads Scholar, both representing adidas/BRC, join Augustus Maiyo (US Army/WCAP) in competing in Sunday's ING New York City Marathon. Williams, who will be starting her third marathon, was scheduled to compete in the 2012 race which was canceled due to Superstorm Sandy. After the cancellation, she recalibrated her training and went on to win the California International Marathon running a personal best of 2:34:58, despite torrential rain and winds. Williams debuted at the US Olympic Trials in 2012 finishing a surprise 14th.
Suver, who joined the American Distance Project just over a year ago, also debuted at the U.S. Olympic Trials but with minimal training only managed a time of 2:50:23. Since then, she has run personal bests at every distance including 32:29 for 10k and 1:11:56 for the half marathon and was runner-up at the 2013 US 20k championships. New York will be her second marathon.
Augustus Maiyo will also be starting his second marathon after winning the 2012 Marine Corp Marathon in 2:20:20 off of training that was focused on the 2012 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships where he finished as the top American and 15th overall with a personal best of 62:33.
ESPN will telecast the entire race on Sunday morning and fans can track athletes on a special cell phone app as well. Spectator information can be found at http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/
