Minneapolis/St. Paul - April 19, 2014 - Five Team USA Minnesota distance runners - Heather Kampf, Gabriele Grunewald, Meghan Peyton, Travis Burkstrand and Jon Peterson - will be among the competitors at the USA 1 Mile Road Championships to be held in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday evening, April 22. The 1 Mile Road Championships are being hosted by the Grand Blue Mile, part of the Drake Relays week of events. At last year"�s race in Des Moines, Kampf finished third, Grunewald was fifth and Peyton crossed the line in 12th place. This will be the first appearance at the 1 Mile Road Championships for Burkstrand and Peterson. Kampf, who won the 2012 USA 1 Mile Road Championships, has a best in the distance of 4:27.1. Grunewald, who is the 2014 USA Indoor 3000-meter Champion, has run 4:21.3 for the mile on the roads. Peyton"�s best is 4:40.5. Burkstrand set his mile best on the indoor track over the winter, posting 4:00.15 in the distance. Peterson has a 1500-meter best of 3:42.78.
