MCM Kids Run to also open as both events occur during Marine Corps Marathon Weekend in October
QUANTICO, VA (April 26, 2017) – One of the nation’s most popular 10k running events, the MCM10K hosted annually during Marine Corps Marathon Weekend, will return to its start in the nation’s capital as the event annually coincides with “The People’s Marathon.” Both events will occur Oct. 22 and finish together at the iconic U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, VA. Registration for the MCM10K opens at Noon Eastern tomorrow April 27 at www.marinemarathon.com
“We are pleased to return the MCM10K start to the National Mall, providing runners a most unique and inviting experience incorporating many landmarks in the nation’s capital and Arlington,” says Rick Nealis, Marine Corps Marathon Organization Director.
As a result of Metro’s SafeTrack initiative, the MCM10K course moved entirely into Arlington in 2016.
This year, the MCM10K will start on the National Mall, outside the National Gallery of Art, with a view of the U.S. Capitol, the Smithsonian Museums and other landmarks before moving into Arlington via the 14thStreet Bridge. The MCM10K course will then continue throughout Crystal City, VA enter the area of the Pentagon and run across Route 110 to the grand finish at the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial.
The MCM10K is open to thousands of runners who will enjoy MCM Weekend activities including the two-day Health & Fitness Expo at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at National Harbor, MD. In addition, MCM10K runners will receive a technical mock-neck participant shirt, impressive finisher medal, event magazine program, post-event hospitality and live entertainment throughout the course.

. The one-mile fun run sponsored by the Virginia529 College Savings Plan is open to kids ages 5 to 12 at a cost of $8. Spots are available for 3,600 kids who can register individually, or with entire school groups.
The five schools that register the largest number of students participating in the MCM Kids Run, will receive the Healthy School Award in 2018. The Healthy School Award is presented by the MCM and its partners, to include a monetary award for each school from Sodexo. The MCM Kids Run includes music, mascots from numerous sports teams and organizations, healthy snacks and free entry into Camp Miles, an interactive health and fitness festival geared to kids.
The MCM10K is annually coordinated by the Marine Corps Marathon Organization. The MCM Kids Run is presented by the Virginia529 College Savings Plan.
