Road Runners Club of America Supports Teens Run Modesto with Special Grant

RRCA grants $1,000 to teen running program negatively impacted by RacePartner’s questionable business practices

ARLINGTON, Virginia – April 23, 2018 – The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is pleased to support Teens Run Modesto with a special Kids Run the Nation Fund grant to help offset a funding shortfall caused by a race registration company, RacePartner.

ShadowChase Running Club started the Modesto Marathon in 2010 to support Teens Run Modesto, funding the teenage participants’ training, equipment, transportation, race entries, and other program activities, all of which are provided free of charge to all program participants. The program is designed to engage at-risk youth and teens in the Modesto area of central California through a structured running program. While working with adult mentors to set goals, participants train for the Modesto Marathon over the course of the 26-week program. Practices take place at local schools under the guidance of volunteer site leaders, and participants take part in local running races leading up to the marathon.

According to race organizers, the race registration company RacePartner of West Palm Beach, Florida, was contracted to provide registration services for the 2018 Modesto Marathon and has withheld payments to the race amounting to a funding shortfall of approximately $60,000 for Teens Run Modesto. The RRCA Board of Directors recognized the immediate need to maintain program operations and has approved a special $1,000 grant to Teens Run Modesto outside of the regular Kids Run the Nation grant application process.

“Putting a silver lining on this cloud, this is a teachable moment for our students. Just as they have to overcome adversity as they train for the marathon, life will undoubtedly throw up roadblocks. We just need to keep a positive outlook and not give up on our mission,” said Mike Araiza, program director of Kids Run Modesto.

The ShadowChase Running Club, an RRCA member, has set-up a Crowdrise fundraising page for Teens Run Modesto.  The RRCA, as the parent organization of the club, will serve as the fiduciary of the campaign to ensure all donations made via Crowdrise in support of Teens Run Modesto will be provided to the program.  Learn more and give today at:  https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/teens-run-modesto-campaign/vickie-chu-hermis?utm_source=&utm_platform=eml&utm_device=desktop

Each year the RRCA provides small grants to youth running programs of all sizes nationwide through the Kids Run the Nation Fund. The 2018 online grant application period will open May 1 and close August 31.
