Organized running clubs/crews, events, and event management companies have been the driving force behind the sport of running and the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) since 1958. The cornerstone of the RRCA’s proven suite of services is its affordable insurance program along with an IRS nonprofit group exemption benefit for qualifying nonprofit organizations. The RRCA’s general liability insurance program meets USA Track & Field’s event sanctioning requirements, including naming USA Track & Field as a permanent additional insured for all events. Furthermore, the RRCA’s insurance program provides for more comprehensive coverage including accidental medical coverage for participants, volunteers, and spectators not found in other event insurance programs.
For 2020, the RRCA’s insurance program does not have a rate increase. For RRCA Certified Race Directors seeking event insurance, the program provides for a 2% discount on event insurance compared to rates available for events held by non-certified race directors. RRCA Certified Race Directors hired to assist with events they do not own may also access coverage for their non-owned activities if the event is insured through the RRCA’s group.
Along with the comprehensive insurance program, the RRCA offers members an easy and affordable one-stop-shop for licensing music played at events. This service provides RRCA member clubs, events, and event management companies with a simple process to obtain annual music licenses for events from performing rights organizations, BMI ASCAP, and GMR through a single transaction with the RRCA.
“Insurance coverage is one of the major benefits of RRCA membership and our organization has decades of experience providing an insurance program to the running industry,” explains Jean Knaack, RRCA Executive Director. “Insuring activities should be a top priority for clubs and events and never an afterthought in the planning process. While running is generally a safe activity, unfortunate things happen from time-to-time, and there are too many uninsured groups currently operating today, putting their members and volunteers at risk.”
The 2020 membership join/renew process with the RRCA is currently open. Membership in the RRCA includes general liability insurance, directors and officers insurance for nonprofit organizations, along with additional options. The options include volunteer medical personnel coverage at an easy to understand flat fee, music licensing with discounted pricing, and business and operations policies with dishonesty bonds for an easy to understand flat fee.
