Marathon Trials athletesMinneapolis/St. Paul – Feb. 24, 2020 – Seven Minnesota Distance Elite runners, all with ties to the RRCA – Tyler Jermann (Roads Scholar '17, Elite Grant '19) Danny Docherty (RunPro Camp '14), Kevin Lewis (RunPro Camp '17), Joel Reichow (RunPro Camp '17), Katy Jermann (RunPro Camp '15, Roads Scholar '15, Elite Grant '19), Dakotah Lindwurm (Roads Scholar '19) and Meghan Peyton (Roads Scholar '11) – have qualified to compete at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon, which will be held in Atlanta on Feb. 29.  The event, hosted by the Atlanta Track Club, will be broadcast live on NBC from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. (Eastern).

The Marathon Trials will begin and end in Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta with the men’s race starting at 12:08 p.m. followed by the women’s race at 12:20 p.m.  The top three males and top three females will be selected for the U.S. team that will compete in the marathon at the 2020 Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo July 24-Aug. 9.

This will be the largest field of Marathon Trials qualifiers ever assembled with over 700 entrants expected, both men and women.  There are 511 women qualified and 260 men.  The previous highest number was 364 starters in 2016 (although 457 had qualified) when the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials were held in Los Angeles.

“We are very proud of all seven athletes for the work they have done to qualify for and prepare to compete at this historically strong Olympic Trials Marathon,” said Chris Lundstrom, Minnesota Distance Elite coach.  “We look forward to toeing the line with such an amazing field.  The goal for each athlete is to perform to the best of his or her abilities on the day, and to finish having left it all out there.  We are honored to be there to represent our families, friends, sponsors and supporters.”

Male qualifying times for the Trials were 2:19 or better in the marathon or 1:04 or faster in the half marathon.  Tyler Jermann has a best of 2:13:29 in the marathon and Danny Docherty has run 2:15:55.  Kevin Lewis qualified with a half marathon time of 1:02:48 and Joel Reichow has run 1:02:38 - both will be making their marathon debuts at the Trials race in Atlanta.

Female qualifying times were 2:45 or faster in the marathon or 1:13 or better in the half.  All three Minnesota Distance Elite women obtained their qualifiers via the marathon with Katy Jermann running 2:31:55, Dakotah Lindwurm posting 2:32:49, and Meghan Peyton notching 2:36:13.

This will be the third Olympic Marathon Trials for Peyton (2012, 2016 and 2020), and the second for Tyler Jermann (2016 and 2020).
