RRCA running clubs typically conduct group training runs, track workouts, social gatherings, and many clubs organize running events. In fact some of the oldest and largest events in the country were established by RRCA member clubs. All of these activities are covered as part of the membership and insurance fees paid by a local running club.
There are no additional insurance or membership fees for clubs that host races owned and operated by the club. All events hosted by RRCA member clubs must be listed on the RRCA Calendar as a record of activity for insurance purposes. Clubs hosting events may also request additional insured certificates for sponsors and local agencies at no additional fee.
However, running clubs providing assistance to other organizations (volunteer recruitment, finish line management, timing services, etc.) for the production of non-club managed or owned events MUST NOT list the event as a club owned event during renewals or on the RRCA Calendar. This transfer of insurance coverage to a third part is strictly is prohibited. If a club is assisting another organization with the production of a non-club managed/owned event, then the partner organization should show proof of insurance to the club, or join the RRCA as an event member.
All clubs hosting events must agree to follow the RRCA Guidelines for Safe Event management. Learn more about these guidelines along with other valuable information for hosting an event in the Resources for Event Directors section of the website. Make sure you have all of your event participants sign a waiver if they register for a club owned event.
